Prayer Shawl Ministry

We will be starting up our Prayer Shawl Ministry this month! All knitters and crocheters are invited to join us as we create prayer shawls for those who need to feel the warmth and love of Jesus Christ and our family of faith. You may create these in the comfort of your own home .

These prayer shawls are given freely as Christ has given to us.

Who Could Use a Prayer Shawl?

Any man, woman, child who is: undergoing surgery, medical test/procedures, suffering a loss, Hospice patients, expectant mothers and the elderly.

If you know someone who could use the encouragement of receiving a prayer shawl (no charge) or would like a pattern to knit or crochet at home, please contact the church office.

Blessing Bags & Detroit Street Ministry

St. Paul Lutheran Church supports an ongoing year round “street ministry” in Detroit.  I began doing outreach 7 years ago when my son went to school in Detroit.  I saw so many people (and dogs) on the streets and felt inclined to help.  I began making up bags full of toiletries, snacks, socks etc.  I had heard about another street ministry on the eastside from a friend and rode with them several times to see what it was about.  Since that time, this ministry grew into me and friends, taking a car load of needed items downtown (including food) , parking on a corner in midtown and passing out the goods.  Many parisoners have helped by purchasing shoes, food and more.

Now we have a “Blessing Bag Corner” inthe parish hall, where items that are collected will be in bins and any group can see what is needed and/or assemble the “Blessing Bags” for pass out on Sunday afternoon in Detroit!  Anyone is welcome to head to Detroit with me on a Sunday to see the giving in action!
